About

Taylor Willcox, M.Ed.

I am a reading intervention specialist with a extensive experience supporting students who struggle with reading across grade levels. I specialize in structured literacy intervention for students who are below grade level, have learning disabilities, or experience difficulty with decoding, fluency, comprehension, and written expression.

My background includes over a decade of classroom and intervention experience, deep knowledge of evidence-based reading practices aligned with the Science of Reading, and collaboration with families, schools, and related service providers. I focus on identifying the underlying skill gaps that interfere with reading development and providing explicit, systematic instruction designed to close those gaps over time.

I take a diagnostic, data-informed approach to intervention. Most students begin with a literacy screening to identify specific areas of need, such as phonological processing, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension. Instruction is individualized and adjusted as progress is monitored, with an emphasis on skill mastery, confidence, and long-term reading independence.

I also offer parent workshops to support families in continuing and strengthening reading development at home beyond intervention sessions.

  • "My son was in second grade and couldn’t read simple words or recognize sight words when we started. Now he is reading chapter books and actually enjoy reading. Taylor’s patience, support, and clear approach made all the difference, and we always got tips on how to help at home. We are incredibly grateful for the progress our child has made."

  • "Ms. Willcox was an incredible teacher for my 2 six year old twins during a time where we were so worried about learning loss. Under her tutelage, Ella and Ava developed a love of learning and were reading chapter books by the end of 1st grade. She continued to tutor my girls and they continued to thrive with her. She explained concepts to them in a way that I just couldn't. I can't thank Ms. Willcox enough."

  • "I had the privilege of working with Ms. Willcox when she served as the reading specialist for my class and saw firsthand how students grew in both confidence and success as readers with her. Her deep understanding of literacy development allows her to identify exactly where a student is at in their literacy journey, regardless of grade level, and provide instruction and support that meets their needs. My students were excited to get to work with her, and their increased fluency and confidence was palpable. Ms. Willcox’s expertise also help teachers and families better understand students reading levels making it easier for all of us to support them in meaningful effective ways."
